What is StrateraQ

The why behind the story.

Every story comes down to a few reasons that matter. StrateraQ asks a short question about a story that will be decided on a known date (a company's quarterly results, a cricket series, a box office weekend, a court ruling) and sets out the main reasons that could decide it. You choose an answer and reason it out. Together, everyone's reasons show what is driving the story.

Why it exists

Most coverage tells you what happened, and there is no shortage of opinion about what will happen next. Very little shows what is actually driving a story, or checks that afterwards. StrateraQ gathers the reasoning of many people on the same question, keeps each reason tied to a clear answer, and checks it against the result.

Your answer is the starting point; the reasoning is what matters. That is also why there is no money involved: the aim is a clearer picture of what drives events, not a wager on them.

How it works

  1. Choose your answer. Each card is a question with two to four possible answers and a date when it will be decided. Once you answer, you see how other players answered.
  2. Reason it out. Pick the reason you think matters most, or put it in your own words. You see which reasons each side chose, and a summary of what players wrote.
  3. See what decided it. When the result is known, you see which reasons mattered. A correct answer earns points, more if most players answered differently, and choosing the reason that decided it earns 5 more.
The scoring rules in full
  • Every answer earns 2 points.
  • A correct answer earns 20 points, multiplied by how sure you said you were (1, 1.25 or 1.5 times).
  • If few players gave the same answer as you, a correct answer earns up to 3 times as much.
  • A wrong answer loses 5, 10 or 15 points, depending on how sure you said you were.
  • If the reason you chose turns out to be the main reason for the result, you get 5 more points.
  • Once you choose an answer you cannot change it. You can still change how sure you are and your reason until answers close.

What you get from it

  • Before the result: how other people answered and which reasons each side chose, a quick read of the arguments on a story you follow.
  • When the result is known: which reasons actually decided it, and whether yours was one of them.
  • Over time: a record of your answers and how each one turned out, with your score across business, sports, entertainment and AI.

How results are decided

  • Every question states, before anyone answers, the rule and the public source that will decide it: a company's results release, an official scorecard, a published chart.
  • Answers close before the result can be known.
  • Each result is checked twice, against separate sources. A result that depends on an event needs two independent reports.
  • For 24 hours after a result, anyone who answered can challenge it. Challenged results are checked again; any correction recalculates everyone's points and is recorded.

What it is not

  • Not betting. No money is involved, nothing can be bought, and points cannot be exchanged for anything.
  • Not a comment section. There are no replies or threads. Written reasons are checked before they count, and other players see only a summary of what each side wrote, never anyone's exact words.

Topics and sources

Questions cover business, sports, entertainment and AI, with new ones added twice a day. Each card links to the news article it is based on; images and articles belong to their publishers.
